A Letter from an Adventist Annuitant

What follows is a recent letter from a church member who has benfited from multiple charitable gift annuities with the Minnesota Conference Association of Seventh-day Adventists.

"As I sit at my desk this morning preparing my bank deposit, I praise the Lord for the extra money I have because of gift annuities. When I married Jeanne, she had gift annuities with the Minnesota Conference Association's Trust Services Department. As a result, I too invested in the same. Now retired, the payout from the annuities is a major part of my income. Also, God's money is in good hands helping to save souls for His kingdom. I know that when I'm sleeping, it will continue to work for Him.

I have worked with different directors of the Gift Planning and Trust Services Department in the Minnesota Conference and found them very helpful in planning my investments in God's work.—Jim Reeve, Sr."

Jim writes to us from the Twin Cities metro area; but, we have members from all over Minnesota who have had similar positive experiences in making charitable gift annuities with the Conference Association. If you'd like to know more about this type of gift, please

Charitable Gift Annuity Rates Changed Again

In accordance with General Conference Planned Giving and Trust Services Accreditation Standards, for a number of years now, the Minnesota Conference Association of Seventh-day Adventists has chosen to use the charitable gift annuity (CGA) rates as suggested by the American Council on Gift Annuities.

Those rates changed on February 1, 2009.
Some good news for donors who wish to make CGA gifts to the Minnesota Conference Association of Seventh-day Adventists is that the process is relatively quick and easy when compared to some other gift plans.  With CD rates hovering just above 2%, the gift annuity rates may still appear to be pretty good to retirees who have been relying on their CD income.  With CGA rates as high as 9.5% for the eldest persons, the rates can be quite attractive -- especially with effective rates being even higher because of tax advantages.

A number of donors have made their CGA gifts as unrestricted gifts; that is, they may be used according to the discretion of the Minnesota Conference Association of Seventh-day Adventists Board of Trustees. However, CGA gifts, like most other gift plans, may also be made to benefit specific ministries such as: Maplewood Academy; North Star Camp; a local church or church school; or more generally, Christian education or evangelism.
